Following Tyrone Mings' big-money departure to AFC Bournemouth in 2015, Ipswich Town needed a reliable left-back to see them through the next few years.

And they got just that when they managed to snag Denmark international Jonas Knudsen from Esbjerg fB in his native land.

Knudsen had made 123 league appearances for EfB and arrived at Portman Road as a 22-year-old who probably needed to get used to English football first before Ipswich fans could expect anything from him.

But he ended up being an ever-present from the get-go, and Knudsen made 42 league appearances in his first season in Suffolk, following that up the next season with 36 games and then another 42 in the 2017-18 campaign.

In a season of struggle though that was 2018-19, Knudsen started to give up some of his games to youngster Myles Kenlock, and by the summer he had departed to Swedish giants Malmo on a free transfer, having proved to be good value over the four years having signed for £450,000.

But the big question is - what is the long throw expert Knudsen doing now?

Well Knudsen is still at Malmo, having joined the club in July 2019 and he became a regular for the rest of that season as left-sided centre-back of a back three, having being used there a little bit before his Ipswich departure by Paul Lambert.

But the 2020 Allsvenskan season saw Knudsen revert to a left-back and his side lost just four league games all season out of 30 - the Dane playing a part in all of them (transfermarkt).

As evidenced by his leaving tweet in 2019, Knudsen was a fan-favourite at Portman Road despite being a part of the side that were relegated to League One, and was especially revered for scoring against Norwich City in 2017 - one of his four league goals for the Tractor Boys.

And they will be glad to hear that he's doing well in Sweden as he looks for back-to-back Allsvenskan trophies in 2021 - and who's to say that Knudsen won't return to Ipswich in the future?...
