After an ill-fated loan spell at Leeds United last season, Izzy Brown was again sent out on loan by Chelsea as Frank Lampard trimmed his squad of players surplus to requirements.

Izzy Brown’s Leeds career was one best forgotten as the midfielder made just two appearances for the first-team all season, both as a substitute late on in two games that Leeds lost.

The loan had to be taken with a pinch of salt however as Brown was recovering from an extremely long injury layoff from the season prior. This meant he never really got up to full fitness at Elland Road.

This season has brought fresh optimism for Brown with a loan move to newly-promoted Luton Town. The Hatters have enjoyed a rapid rise up the ranks of the Football League in recent years, making it to the second division despite only returning to the Football League in 2015.

This season has seen a mixed start, where they currently sit just above the relegation zone in 21st with 14 points and three straight losses. Izzy Brown has been an important fixture of Luton’s side at the start of the season, having only missed two league games since he joined the club.

Brown has been played in multiple positions for Luton this season, including on the left-wing, attacking midfield, and just behind the striker. In that time, he has been very influential, providing five assists already. His assist record is the second-best in the league, behind Bristol’s Niclas Eliasson and West Brom’s Matheus Periera (both on six).

This loan has given a chance for Brown to recapture the form that has given him such a strong reputation in the Championship, as his Leeds stint didn’t go to plan. While at Elland Road, it was perhaps nobody’s direct fault that it didn’t work out, but the circumstances of Leeds’ season coupled with his struggles to return to fitness meant he could never cement a place in the squad, let alone the starting 11.

At Luton, he has become one of the key players in the team and is relishing the role so far, with the hope that he can finally push on and fulfil the potential everyone knows he has.
