Birmingham City had a very busy summer as new boss Pep Clotet tried to put his own mark on the squad.

The Spaniard made some big calls over the summer as he reshaped the group - and one of those was the decision to sell striker Isaac Vassell to fellow Championship Cardiff City.

Despite suffering terribly with injuries since arriving at St. Andrew's from Luton, the raw qualities of the 26-year-old meant some felt he was a striker that Blues should persevere with.

And, when you look at the struggles Clotet's men have had in front of goal, you could see their point.

However, things haven't gone well for Vassell since he made the move to Wales, with injuries once again hampering his progress.

Yet, he actually managed to get off the the dream start. Coming on as a last minute sub against former club Luton, the quick forward grabbed a stoppage time winner against the Hatters and at that moment Blues may have been regretting the decision to let him go.

Since then though, he has managed just two 45 minutes of football, with his last minutes coming in the League Cup loss to Luton back in August.

A thigh injury at the end of September ruled Vassell out for up to two months and he is yet to make a recovery from that.

You have to have sympathy for the player because of his injury issues, with knee problems restricting the ex-Plymouth man to just 23 league appearances during the two years he was in the West Midlands.

Whilst he still has time to turn things around at Cardiff, he hasn't been able to get a run in the team because of fitness issues and it's news that won't come as a surprise to Birmingham fans.
