After two loan moves away from the club Igor Vetokele secured a free transfer to Westerlo in the summer of 2019 and the 29-year-old has struggled to set the world alight in the Belgian second tier.

The Angolan arrived at The Valley in the summer of 2014 from Copenhagen for £2.7 million according to Transfermarkt and hit the ground running in the Championship contributing 11 goals and nine assists.

Vetokele scored five in his opening quintet and looked to be an outstanding piece of business before the relentless nature of English football caught up with his body.

Vetokele flattered to deceive in SE7 after the 2014/15 season and his spell at The Valley fizzled out leading to his departure in 2019. The livewire attacker has scored 13 goals in 48 appearances for Westerlo with the club currently top of the Belgian second tier.

The 29-year-old has a contract at Westerlo running until the summer of 2024 and his fitness record suggests he will remain there until the end of that as he did at Charlton.

Vetokele has only made the squad in one of Westerlo's opening seven league games and given the injuries he has sustained over the years he seems to be slowing down as a talented striker in Belgium.

The 29-year-old has not played for Angola since 2019 in a 1-0 win over Botswana and sadly it would not be a surprise to see him hang up his boots at the end of his contract at Westerlo. A figure of some intense highs and lows at The Valley, Vetokele is remembered for his blistering start to the 2014/15 season where he looked like a 22-year-old destined to play in one of Europe's top five leagues.
