Stoke City are currently struggling against relegation in the Championship, but have an opportunity to push on if they're to stay in the division over the final nine games.

The season hasn't been the best for the Potters but since Michael O'Neill has come into manage the side, there has been a stark improvement in performances.

One man who struggled in a Stoke shirt for the majority of his time at the club was winger Ibrahim Afellay, once billed to be a superstar, he never quite got going for the Potters and didn't suit their style of play one bit.

He played for Barcelona before his time at Stoke, and made just over 20 appearances for the Spanish giants as well as over 150 during his first stint at star Netherlands side PSV Eindhoven.

At Stoke he wasn't keen under many managers and even had a bust-up during Paul Lambert's tenure at the club, and last summer he left the Potters after four very unsuccessful years.

Despite that, he can still take some great career highlights for the national side, making over 50 appearances and appearing in a number of successful major tournaments for the Netherlands.

After his stint at Stoke, Afellay moved back to PSV in order to try and progress once more and potentially have an impressive fair well stint at his former stomping ground.

So far, it hasn't gone to plan at all and the winger has failed to make for than three appearances for the club and it looks as though the player is heading the way of hanging up his boots after failing in a career that had promised so much.
