Ipswich Town have endured a miserable few months in League One, with promotion back to the Championship highly unlikely when the season does eventually resume.

Paul Lambert's side started the campaign superbly but they just haven't had the quality in the ranks to sustain that.

One man who would have given this Ipswich team something different in his prime is Jay Emmanuel-Thomas.

The attacker was a frustrating figure at times but anyone who saw him play, whether that was at Portman Road, for Bristol City or any of his other clubs, saw a player with huge potential.

Combining excellent technique and close control with a real physical presence, Emmanuel-Thomas was a joy to watch at his best.

The problem for the left-footer was that he was inconsistent and that's why his career didn't go the way many would've expected after he left Ipswich.

Whilst he was very good at Bristol City, the former Arsenal trainee didn't convince at QPR and had to go on loan to MK Dons and Gillingham to get regular game time.

When his contract in West London expired, Emmanuel-Thomas was released and his next move came in 2019 when he joined Thai club PTT Rayong.

It was a short stay abroad for the versatile forward who is once again a free agent and at 29-years-old it's surprising that Emmanuel-Thomas is in such a position when you consider the talent he has.

Given his age, there is still time for things to click for the player but it's fair to say things haven't worked out at all for Emmanuel-Thomas in recent years on the football pitch.
