Swindon Town became Eoin Doyle's seventh EFL club, when he joined the Robins in the summer on a year-long loan deal from divisional rivals Bradford City.

Doyle arrived at Valley Parade in the summer of 2018 and was the Bantams top-scorer (11) in a forgettable season that ended in relegation to the fourth-tier.

At 31, the Irish-man has a wealth of experience in the EFL and his best form came at Chesterfield where he scored 32 goals in 69 appearances for the Spireites between 2013-2015.

Ironically, this season both Bradford and Swindon sit on 30 points in the League Two table, with the Bantams just ahead of the Wiltshire club on goal difference.

Swindon's league position is in some largely down to Doyle's goal-scoring contribution this term.

The 31-year-old sits top of the division's goal scoring charts on 14 goals, double what Mansfield's Danny Rose is on in second place.

An impressive six goals in four games in October also led Doyle to be named League Two Player of the Month, which would not have come as a surprise to anyone connected with the club.

Swindon are established as one of the favourites to win promotion to League One, alongside Doyle's parent club Bradford City.

Although technically behind City in the table, Swindon may be the more optimistic of the two clubs given the nature of their leading talisman.

Despite being in second place in the division, City don't appear to have an out and out goalscorer this term, with their current top-scorer James Vaughan only on five goals so far.

The Robins have scored four more goals than City so far this term but City have shown more resilience at back conceding five less than their promotion rivals.

A cause for frustration for the Bantams could be in the games they narrowly fail to win and fans may begin to wonder "what if?" had Doyle remained at the club.

Doyle has now scored in five consecutive matches for Swindon, and has already netted three braces on separate occasions for the club this term.

Should the Robin's win promotion ahead of City thanks to Doyle's goals it could go down as a huge error of judgement for letting the striker go.

Swindon travel to Salford City at the weekend, whilst Bradford's game with Colchester United has been postponed due to international call-ups.
