Some Leeds United fans may always think 'what if' in regards to Eddie Nketiah's time at the club, after the 20-year-old only managed two league starts for Marcelo Bielsa's men.

Nketiah's summer arrival was greeted with optimism from many of the United faithful, which was fuelled by goals on his debut in the EFL Cup and on his league debut for the Whites.

Some Leeds fans may have been forgiven for worrying about who would help Patrick Bamford get the goals, following the summer departure of last season's top goalscorer Kemar Roofe.

Nketiah made his Gunners debut back in 2017, where he scored a brace for the side as they beat Norwich City in an EFL Cup fourth round match.

Last season the striker made nine first team appearances at Arsenal, including five in the Premier League, where he scored one goal, and initially joined Leeds in the summer on a season-long loan.

Nketiah's initial performances excited Leeds fans, but Marcelo Bielsa's preference of keeping the 20-year-old on the bench started to frustrate sections of the club's support.

Even the player himself revealed at one point to Sky Sports that he was starting to feel frustrated by his lack of starts for the Whites.

It was hardly a surprise then, when Arsenal opted to recall the 20-year-old from his loan spell at Elland Road on New Year's Day, due to the lack of football he was getting at Leeds.

The 20-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Bristol City, after leaving Leeds but decided to remain at Arsenal after assurances he would receive a shot at the first team.

Since arriving back in North London, the 20-year-old has been named in the Premier League matchday squad three times, appearing off the bench twice, amassing 17 minutes of league football for the Gunners.

Nketiah's first start for the Gunners since returning from Elland Road came in the fourth round of the FA Cup, where the 20-year-old played all 90 minutes and scored Arsenal's second goal in the 2-1 win over Bournemouth.

The Gunners are arguably struggling for goals at the moment, with striker Alexandre Lacazette currently on an eight-game run without a goal, Nketiah could have a part to play in the coming weeks.

Mikel Arteta is clearly a fan of the 20-year-old and this has been shown with his start in the FA Cup and his inclusion in the last three matchday squads.

Nketiah appears to have the abilities to go on to be a good Premier League striker and it will be interesting to see how much of a role he plays in North London this term.

Leeds' undoing this season has been their inability to convert chances, and whilst Nketiah never got the chance to get on a roll, the Leeds faithful did see flashes of brilliance from this emerging talent, and should Nketiah have an impact at Arsenal this season, they may be wondering 'what if' come May.
