How is Dean Holden getting on ever since leaving Bristol City?

Published

on

Dean Holden is a name that will no doubt hold plenty of memories for the Bristol City faithful after he left his role as the club’s manager back in February of this year.

The 42-year-old originally took on the role at Ashton Gate following the sacking of Lee Johnson and was quickly installed as the man that the Robins hoped would take the club forwards.

However he failed to build on what was a promising early start as head coach and was eventually relived of his duties following a run of six successive defeats across all competitions which saw the club sitting in 13th place of the Sky Bet Championship table.

Since leaving BS3, the former defender has gone on to take up the assistant manager’s post at Stoke City, thus linking up with Michael O’Neill at the Bet365 Stadium.

Quiz: Have any of these 30 ex-Bristol City players ever played abroad?

Holden and O’Neill have helped the Potters to fifth place in the league standings at present, seeing the club be installed as one of the early promotion favourites in some quarters.

It also perhaps underlined that the coach was not yet ready to take on a managerial role as demanding as the one he had at Bristol City, with Holden maybe needing more time to build up his experience as a number two for the time being before stepping up again in the future.

Overall it was a risk that didn’t pay off for the Robins and it is fair to say that the 42-year-old has done very well to bounce back and find another role within football so quickly.
