Charlie Lakin is one of a number of promising youngsters to come through the Birmingham City academy in recent years, with the 20-year-old having made his Blues bow during the 2017/2018 campaign.  

Capable of being deployed in several roles within the centre of the park, the midfielder has clearly benefited from being afforded an increased amount of game time this term whilst on loan at League Two outfit Stevenage.

Lakin has started 15 games for the Hertfordshire based side, often taking up a role in central midfield as more of a box-to-box player, with this role allowing the youngster to make use of his impressive passing range and ability to link up play between defence and attack.

In addition to being deployed in a central role, Lakin has also shown his versatility on the odd occasion this term, with Graham Westley having utilised his talents in a left wing role and on the odd occasion in defence.

The player's all action style no doubt appeals to Westley who puts high physical demands on his players to win possession of the ball back quickly after losing possession, thus making Lakin the perfect man for exerting a high press.

Despite showcasing his defensive skills on many occasions, it must also be noted that the 20-year-old also offers a good threat when moving forward with the ball, with his dribbling ability allowing him to break between the opposition lines and create space for his more attack minded teammates.

In short, Birmingham certainly have a bright talent on their hands who will no doubt be keen to add to his appearance tally of 13 games for his parent club once he returns to St Andrew's.
