Nottingham Forest are renowned for having a very good academy, with several players in Sabri Lamouchi's first team having come through the ranks at the City Ground.

However, it's obviously not possible for them all to push through, and whilst some benefit from playing for the U23 side and working in the same environment every day, others prefer the challenge of playing competitive football in the lower leagues.

That's exactly what young forward Virgil Gomis has done, with the 20-year-old currently with Macclesfield Town in League Two after spells with Braintree and Notts County last season.

Even though you have to admire the Frenchman for looking to go out to play regularly, it has to be said that he isn't at his best right now.

Gomis has failed to establish himself as a regular in Daryl McMahon's side, with many of his appearances coming from the bench. And, he is yet to get off the mark for a Macclesfield side that are struggling for goals as a team.

Although, it should be said that he has featured in ten games this season, so he is a valued member of the squad and with the fixtures coming thick and fast in the coming months he will hope to have a more prominent role leading up to the Christmas period.

But, no goals from those ten games show that things aren't going to plan for the youngster and he knows he will need to develop a more ruthless edge in front of goal if he is to catch the eye of those who are monitoring his progress from Forest.
