Having been handed over the reins at St Andrew's by Birmingham City in June following Garry Monk's departure, caretaker head coach Pep Clotet opted to allow a number of players to leave the club.

One of those who made a temporary exit from the Blues was Josh Dacres-Cogley who joined Crawley Town on a season-long loan deal (via BBC Sport).

Limited to just two appearances for Birmingham in all competitions last season, the defender would have been hoping that a move to the Red Devils would give him the opportunity to play regular first-team football.

However, this unfortunately hasn't been the case as Dacres-Cogley has been forced to watch on from the sidelines for the majority of the 2019/20 campaign due to injury.

After making an impressive start to life at the People's Pension Stadium by providing two assists on his debut against Scunthorpe United, the 23-year-old fractured his ankle in the Red Devils' 3-2 victory over Leyton Orient.

Expected to be out of action until December (via Birmingham's official website), the defender will be determined to play a key role for Crawley when he makes his return to the first-team.

In Dacres-Cogley's absence, the Red Devils have experienced a mixed start to the year in League Two.

Although they are currently 17th in the fourth-tier standings, Crawley are only seven points behind Newport County who occupy the final play-off place.

Providing that Dacres-Cogley can hit the ground running during the second-half of the season, the Red Devils will fancy their chances of securing a top-seven finish next May.

For the defender's sake, he will be hoping that by delivering the goods consistently for Crawley, he will be able to force his way into contention for a starting role at Birmingham when he returns to St Andrew's in 2020.
