With Birmingham City caretaker head coach Pep Clotet opting to bolster his squad in the summer by signing 10 players, a number of individuals were allowed to leave St Andrew's.

One of those who made a temporary exit from the Blues was Charlie Lakin who joined Stevenage on a season-long loan deal in August (via BBC Sport).

Having failed to impress during Birmingham's 3-0 defeat to Portsmouth in the Carabao Cup at the start of the 2019/20 campaign, the attacking midfielder would have been hoping to play week-in, week-out for the Boro in League Two.

However, this unfortunately hasn't been the case for Lakin whose game-time has been limited due to injury.

After making his debut for Stevenage in a 0-0 draw with Mansfield Town at the end of August, the 20-year-old suffered a thigh issue (via Birmingham's official website) which ruled him out of action for two months.

During Lakin's absence, the Boro only managed to pick up seven points from a possibly thirty on offer in League Two.

Due to this poor run of form, Stevenage fell into the relegation zone in the fourth-tier.

However, with Lakin making a triumphant return from injury during the Boro's victory over Morecambe on Saturday, he will now be aiming to play a key role in helping his side achieve survival this season.

Providing that the midfielder can continue to develop as a player during his time at the Lamex Stadium, he could force his way into contention for a starting role at Birmingham when he returns to the club next summer.

Lakin may feature in Stevenage's clash with Fulham's Under-21 side in the EFL Trophy tonight.
