After clearly impressing during his loan spell last term, Turkish club Trabzonspor opted to activate the £2m release clause in Ekuban's contract to make him a permanent signing over the summer.

Ekuban was one of a handful of players that arrived at Elland Road during the summer of 2017 and the former Chievo striker went on to appear 21 times for Leeds that season, scoring one goal.

After Marcelo Bielsa's arrival at Elland Road the following season, Ekuban, like a number of those players were deemed surplus to requirements and joined Trabzonspor on loan for the 2018-2019 season.

In 29 Turkish Super Lig appearances he scored five goals for the club as they finished fourth, securing a place in the Europa League third qualifying round.

Ekuban is currently recovering from a fractured toe which has kept him out of Trabzonspor's last seven games but is expected to be back later this month as reported by HITC.

He will be hoping to pick up where he left off this season, after netting five goals in seven appearances across all competitions in the opening weeks of the season.

Ekuban, who struggled to make and impact at Elland Road under Thomas Christiansen and Paul Heckingbottom, had started the season well and lead the line in a side containing former England striker Daniel Sturridge.

Whilst it is hard to see Leeds fans yearning for Ekuban to return to Elland Road, an early season hat-trick against AEK Athens in the Europa League qualifying round could suggest that the Yorkshire club didn't give Ekuban enough of a chance to show his full potential.

At still only 25, Ekuban has the possibility to improve as a player and as a goalscorer, and before his toe injury earlier this season was showing signs that he could have a successful season in Turkey.

Marcelo Bielsa was ruthless last summer and this with allowing players to leave Elland Road, and no fewer than 22 left the club this summer.

Many of these will not be missed at Elland Road and it is only Ezgjan Alioski, Mateusz Klich and Jordan Stevens who remain at Elland Road from the 2017 summer transfer window.

Some may suggest that given Leeds' limited resources up-front, Ekuban could of been a good squad player to have around the club, but the truth is that some of the Whites supporters and Bielsa were wanting a squad of a higher capability than what Ekuban offered during his time in West Yorkshire.

Like with a lot of ex-players, Leeds' fans will probably wish him well in his later career but I can't see the striker being someone fans will regret leaving Elland Road.
