Nottingham Forest fans will be keeping an eye on how Joao Carvalho gets on away from the City Ground this season, after the midfielder left the club in the summer.

The 23-year-old left Forest for UD Almeria in the summer, joining the Spanish outfit initially on loan for the season with an option to buy.

Carvalho's departure divided opinions amongst the Forest faithful, with many still feeling that the playmaker had a lot more to offer at Forest, especially with a new manager now in place.

But the midfielder will now have to impress over in Spain for Almeria, after what has been a disappointing start to the season for the club.

Almeria sit 14th in the Spanish Segunda table having picked up 11 points from their opening eight league games, and they somehow failed to pick up a win at the weekend.

Almeria faced Girona at home, but despite Girona having three players sent off, the hosts failed to find a breakthrough and were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw.

Jonas Ramalho was the first player to be given his marching orders, being sent off on 28 minutes, with Sebastian Cristoforo and Monchu being sent off on 78 and 82 minutes.

Carvalho operated in the number 10 role and played the full 90 minutes, but he and his teammates were unable to find a way past the eight men of Girona.

Carvalho did look the most threatening player on the team, though, and he hit the crossbar in the second-half with a clipped, curling effort.

He was unable to create an opening and find a way past the opposition, but he and his teammates will have to improve if they are to start climbing the table.
