15-year old West Brom striker Louie Barry is causing quite a stir in some circles at the moment, with goal scoring appearances for both England and the Republic of Ireland.

He bagged twice for Eire's U16 side this week, helping them to a finer 4-2 victory against Bulgaria. That prompted Irish journalist Aidan Fitzmaurice to tweet that England were trying to poach him and that Ireland must hold on to their best players.

What he failed to mention was that the Baggies youngster has already represented England, scoring an impressive ten goals in just five U15 outings earlier this year. As recently as July he was called up to the England U16 squad to face Croatia, but has since seemingly switched allegiances to the Republic of Ireland.

The youngster has drawn praise from academy manager Mark Harrison, who claimed that along with other prospects such as Rico Richards and Sam Field, Barry is coveted by much bigger clubs.

“Some of those names are players the rest of the country would love to have taken from us,” he told the Express and Star. “They’re the Izzy Browns of this world, we’ve got similar there.”
