Birmingham City are interested in signing Swansea City winger Jefferson Montero this summer and this is a signing that should excite fans at St Andrew's.

It's been a disappointing few weeks for Birmingham fans, with Jota leaving to join rivals Aston Villa, manager Garry Monk parting company with the club and now last season's top scorer Che Adams leaving to join Southampton.

Montero found himself massively out of favour at Swansea under Graham Potter last season and was sent out on loan to West Bromwich Albion in the January transfer window.

The 29-year-old made just four Championship appearances for the Baggies, scoring one goal on his only league start against Queens Park Rangers.

According to respected journalist Alan Nixon, Birmingham caretaker boss Pep Clotet is interesting in signing the winger this summer.

Even though he failed to make an impact last season, Montero is still a good player and could turn out to be a smart signing for Birmingham.

A move to St Andrew's would make perfect sense for Montero too. He really struggled for game time last season, but he would probably be one of the first names on the teamsheet at Birmingham next season.

Clotet already knows Montero well from his time as assistant manager at Swansea and should be able to get the best out of him.

Birmingham need some more firepower up front too, having seen two key attackers depart the club in recent weeks.

Both Jota and Adams will be very difficult to replace, but even though he struggled last season, Montero is still a good player and is more than capable of making an impact in the Championship.

If Clotet is able to turn him into the player he was for Swansea in the Premier League a few years ago, then he could turn out to be a fantastic signing.
