Host of Championship sides chasing deal for Newcastle United man

A host of Championship sides are chasing Newcastle United goalkeeper Rob Elliot who is open to a loan move, according to the Daily Mail.

The 30-year-old goalkeeper has slipped down the pecking order after suffering a ligament injury which sidelined the Republic of Ireland goalkeeper for nine months.

Elliot is seeking a loan move in order to prove his fitness which could enable him to fight his way back into contention at Newcastle United.

The potential availability of Rob Elliot has attracted the attention of Championship strugglers Rotherham United and Wigan Athletic, who currently make up two of the bottom four clubs.

The other club that has expressed an interest is Cardiff City.

However, after the arrival of Allan McGregor from Hull City on loan, it is unlikely that Cardiff City will bring in two goalkeepers in the January transfer window.

With none of the clubs linked with Rob Elliot having a direct impact on Newcastle United as a promotion rival, Rafa Benitez may be willing to allow Elliot to leave temporarily before the transfer window closes.

Newcastle fans, what do you make of the news? Should Rob Elliot be allowed to leave on loan in this window? Is a fully fit Rob Elliot Newcastle United’s first choice goalkeeper? Which of these clubs, do you think would be the best fit for Elliot? Do you think he’d be a good signing for a club¬†that is struggling?
