According to an exclusive report by The Scottish Sun, Celtic defender Erik Sviatchenko is on his way out of the club this January.

A number of Championship clubs are reportedly interested in Sviatchenko after being alerted to his availability.

The 26-year-old defender is struggling to get much game time at Parkhead this season after falling behind the likes of Nir Bitton, Dedryck Boyata and Jozo Simunovic in the pecking order under Brendan Rodgers.

Erik Sviatchenko was a man in demand this summer with Celtic rejecting a permanent bid from FC Copenhagen, a loan offer from Besiktas and they have resisted interest from Newcastle United in the past.

The five cap Denmark international has been with Celtic since January 2016 after joining from FC Midtjylland in Denmark.

But he has only featured twice all season with both games coming in the Champions League.

His last appearance in green and white was at the beginning of August against Rosenborg.

But now the centre half is set to look for a new club as Celtic attempt to bring in Red Bull Leipzig's experienced defender Marvin Compper for £1m.

This would allow Sviatchenko to depart as expected and a host of Championship clubs are weighing up swoops, according to this report.

The Verdict

Even though he has not been playing much this season, Sviatchenko would be a catch for any Championship club.

It remains to be seen whether it would be a loan or a permanent deal but it might be worth taking the punt.

You would expect the likes of Leeds and Aston Villa to be competing for his services.
