A host of Championship clubs are keeping tabs on the situation of Manchester United midfielder Nick Powell, according to the Daily Star.
The Premier League club are looking to loan out the young midfielder, who has failed to impress with the first team once again.
Preston North End are thought to be in pole position to secure the 21-year-old’s temporary signature, with United boss Louis van Gaal unlikely to use him again in the first team for the foreseeable future.
According to the report by The Daily Star, five other Championship clubs are looking at Powell to help them finish out their seasons in a positive manner.
Once regarded as one of the top young prospects in English football, time will tell if he can ever fulfil those expectations; meanwhile, clubs like Preston will hope that he can find his confidence very soon.
Powell has had loan spells at Wigan Athletic and Leicester City in the past few seasons with neither of them proving very successful.
If the versatile midfielder could rekindle the form he showcased at Crewe Alexandra before his move to Manchester United, he would turn out to be an incredibly shrewd signing for a Championship outfit.
What do you all think of this move? Could Powell be a welcome addition to your club as injuries and depth become an issue? Let us know in the comments below!
