There seems to be a mixed reaction in the Aston Villa fan base of the latest addition to the ranks made by boss Steve Bruce, as veteran defender Christopher Samba joins ahead of the new season.

The 33-year-old was initially on trial at the Championship outfit before putting pen-to-paper on a one-year contract on Thursday evening.

Some supporters seemingly remain sceptical at the centre-backs capability in the second-tier, having struggled to cope in the Premier League four years ago during a stint at Queens Park Rangers.

However, everyone else is notably optimistic with Samba signing on at the club after having a fairly impressive five-year spell at Blackburn Rovers where he racked up over 150 appearances before departing Ewood Park for pastures new in 2012.

Christopher Samba has become Aston Villa's third defensive acquisition of the summer following the capture of ex-England international John Terry and full-back Ahmed Elmohamady from Hull City.
