‘Hope we don’t sell him in January’ – Many Barnsley fans react to player’s weekend performance

Valerien Ismael has certainly got off to a stellar start as manager of Barnsley.

The Frenchman was selected as the replacement for Gerhard Struber, who departed for MLS side New York Red Bulls, and he’s not had to change much at Oakwell.

Ismael is using the same wing-back formation that Struber implemented and it’s working to good effect, winning three of his first four games in charge before Nottingham Forest’s visit to Yorkshire today.

And the Tykes made it four wins out of five with a late show against Forest, with goals coming from Callum Styles and Cauley Woodrow in the final five minutes sealing a 2-0 win.

Naturally a central midfielder, Styles is being used as a left wing-back by Ismael, and he’s certainly impressing in his new role.

The 20-year-old rifled the ball into the top corner from outside the area to make it 1-0, in what must be one of the goals of the weekend in the EFL.

Barnsley fans have been incredibly impressed with Styles’ recent performances, and he could end up being another big money sale for the club, following on from the likes of Alfie Mawson, Ethan Pinnock and Conor Hourihane in recent times.

Supporters have been lauding Styles on Twitter – some though may have got a little carried away…
