The hunt for a new manager at Notts County has taken yet another twist, with respectable journalist Alan Nixon claiming that Paul Heckingbottom has been in talks with the club.

The former Barnsley and Leeds United boss has been out of work since the end of last season, where the 41-year old won just 4 out of his 16 games in charge at Elland Road.

Former Ipswich and Shrewsbury Town boss Paul Hurst was the bookies' favourite for the vacant role at Meadow Lane, however the club have reportedly shortlisted three managers for a second interview.

Notts will be hoping that Heckingbottom can repeat his success at Barnsley, where he took over the club when they were 12th in League One and won the League One play-off final with the Tykes just a few months later.

The Magpies need a boost to say the least - their latest result, a 3-0 loss at home to Cheltenham Town, leaves the club sitting in the relegation zone.
