Blackburn Rovers return to action this weekend with a tough test against Bristol City at Ewood Park.

Tony Mowbray’s side still have aspirations of reaching the Championship’s play-offs, but there’s got to be a fast start for Rovers and they could do with taking points off a fellow play-off contender in Bristol City.

A postponement of over three months has given Blackburn a chance to reflect and build-up to rectifying their previous result – a 3-0 loss to Derby County.

Ahead of their return to action this weekend, we take a look at the starting XI we are expecting Mowbray to unleash against Bristol City…

Walton has been Blackburn’s No.1 all season and is almost certain to retain his place in goal for Mowbray’s side.

Against a decent Bristol City attack, he might be set for a busy afternoon.

The versatile Nyambe could shift back out to right-back to accommodate the return of Darragh Lenihan at centre-back.

He will be involved in some respect.

The Man City loanee is another player that looks a likely starter in the defence.

In at centre-back, he looks most comfortable and should start here.

Lenihan is another obvious pick in the heart of Blackburn’s defence.

He’s returning to action after suspension and will be massive for Blackburn during the run-in.

In a slight reshuffle, Downing might be asked to step back to left-back to combat injury worries.

He’s a versatile player and an experienced head we know can adapt.

Travis has been one of Blackburn’s standout players this season and will be a certain starter in the middle of the park.

Expect to him to have a strong finish to the season.

Earlier this season, Evans and Travis looked good in midfield together and after the former’s return from injury, he will likely return to the starting line-up.

The postponement has benefitted the midfielder and he will be looking to impact the final nine games of the season.

Gallagher has been shifted out onto the right on a number of occasions and that could continue as the season resumes.

He’s got a decent work ethic and has done well as Blackburn prepare for Bristol City.

In the continued absence of Bradley Dack, the pressure will be on Holtby to be the creative spark in the No.10 position.

He’s got buckets of ability and Mowbray will hope he can dictate the flow of Rovers’ attack upon his return to the side.

Rothwell has been effective in this position in the past.

He complements what Blackburn have in other areas of midfield well.

If the pressure is on Holtby to create, Armstrong is carrying the burden as Blackburn’s danger man in the absence of Dack.

He’s been in fine form this season and is really growing as a player. He could be the difference.
