Bristol City manager Dean Holden has offered an update on contract talks with Famara Diedhiou and has said that things are going well, as quoted by Bristol Live.

The Robins have had a fine start to the Sky Bet Championship campaign with them currently sitting top of the table with Reading after five games played.

Up next, they host Middlesbrough this evening at Ashton Gate and during his press conference ahead of that match, Dean Holden was asked about the current status of contract talks between the club and striker Diedhiou.

His deal runs out in a fairly short amount of time now, but it appears there is hope that an agreement is going to be reached.

Holden said:

"The contract talks are going well.

"I'm in touch with Mark [Ashton] who is in touch with Fam and his agent regularly and there's no issue at all with that. That will never come into my thinking with team selection."

The Verdict

Diedhiou is a player with quality and it would make sense for the Robins to get him on a new deal rather than risk him leaving on a pre-contract for free for another club.

We've seen him mainly used in a substitute's role this season so far for the club but it appears Holden does want to keep him around and perhaps when the new deal is signed we'll see his use in the team increased.

Right now, though, it's an ongoing situation.
