No competition guarantees as much jubilation, heartache and sheer pandemonium as the play-offs and this weekend the League One action gets underway.

Portsmouth and Sunderland take each other on it what looks to be the most enticing semi-final but the clash between Doncaster and Charlton on Sunday is equally as mouthwatering.

It is the battle between 3rd and 6th. Charlton leapt above both the Black Cats and Pompey on the final day of the season whilst Grant McCann's Donny secured the final spot on the same day.

Lee Bowyer's Addicks finished 15 points better off in the league season and go into the clash as convincing favourites. But this is the play-offs and anything can and will happen.

Doncaster have played some great football this season and have every chance of causing an upset.

But having already played each other twice in the third tier, there are a few things we can gauge.

It is the Addicks who come out on top convincingly so far, with a 2-0 win back in November the result of their first clash.

Joe Aribo and Karlan Gran scored the goals that day but with former having moved on to Huddersfield Town in January, Doncaster can take some heart.

But with the sides meeting at the Keepmoat on Sunday, it would perhaps make more sense to focus on the clash at Doncaster's home in March.

That time it finished 1-1 in a much stronger showing from Grant McCann's men, and were it not for a Marquis own goal, they may well have taken all three points.

So this Sunday's clash is one that perhaps swings slightly in Charlton's favour but history shows us that Donny will be right up for it on their own turf.
