Preston North End manager Alex Neil will be looking to build on his side's 14th place finish in the Championship last season, a result that saw the Lilywhites finish 13 points outside the play-off places.

With Neil finalising his squad, with only a few weeks until pre-season remaining, there is obviously potential for some of his current roster to exit Deepdale, with forward Tom Barkhuizen possibly one to go with only a year left on his current deal.

The winger scored seven goals last season and is one of the club's most influential stars, so transfer interest could arise from rival clubs this summer.

So, do you think there is likely to be interest in Barkhuizen this summer?

We discuss........

Kealan Hughes

"There certainly should be. Preston pulled off a coup by signing him from Morecambe in 2017, as since then he has adapted to the Championship really well.

"He can be relied upon to get a few goals a season and would be ideal for a team like Leeds or West Brom, who lacked goals from midfield last season.

"However, I can see interest being deterred due to his passing ability, which isn't up to the standard of the best clubs in the division, and until he improves this side of his game he won't be amongst the best midfielders in the division."

Alfie Burns

"Barkhuizen is a player that I really like and he’s at that age now where moves emerging might well interest him.

"He’s been consistent for Preston over the years, but could a move elsewhere really help take him to the next level?

"That’s something that he will consider, whilst those who might consider a move for him will also believe that.

"25 is a good age and his peak years are on the horizon."

Gary Hutchinson

“Six goals in 34 matches? I’m not sure.

“Mind you, that’s the sort of record that Karl Robinson thinks is worth £4m, so who am I to say?

“I think he needs another season of development and first team football personally, a move might be a little premature right now.

“Preston are a good club with lots to offer, including regular starts.”

George Brooks

"Barkhuizen is a good player and I wouldn’t be surprised to see interest in him from rival clubs this summer.

"I’m sure there will be plenty of clubs looking to strengthen their attacking options and they could do far worse than a player like Barkhuizen.

"He is entering the final year of his contract at Preston, so the club are still in a reasonably good position if they want to keep hold of him."
