Aston Villa could be set to recall on-loan striker Andre Green from his Portsmouth spell, according to the Sun.

Green has bagged five goals since coming back from injury, but has only started one League One match for Kenny Jackett's side as they've surged to the top of the table.

The report suggests there is a contingent in the deal that will allow Green to be recalled and that Dean Smith could be about to throw him a Villa lifeline after he was farmed out by previous manager Steve Bruce.

If he is recalled, Villans fans are likely to be delighted. The 20-year-old has emerged from the youth ranks at Villa and is a popular figure amongst their home support.

Would it be a wise move though? Villa have a rich array of attacking options and Green hasn't been getting regular starts in the league below. Would he be best served staying put, gaining more first-team experience and coming back in the summer?

Or is it a great chance to make a fresh start under Dean Smith? Our FLW experts discuss.

Jacob Potter

"His future surely lies elsewhere.

"I'm surprised to see Aston Villa considering recalling Green, as I find it hard to believe that he will get regular game time in Smith's side for the remainder of this season.

"Green won't get in the Villa side ahead of Jonathan Kodjia, Jack Grealish or Yannick Bolasie, so he won't have a part to play in Villa's promotion bid if he's occupying a seat on the substitutes bench."

Gary Hutchinson

"Green had a role to play before he went and there's definite value in getting him back in the side now.

"It seems to me he went to Pompey to have his injection and recover, but was that the plan all along?

"He's now fit and raring to go with a few goals in the bag to boot.

"It's worked out well for Villa, hasn't it?"

Chris Gallagher

"I don't think so.

"Villa have arguably the best forward line in the division and Smith has so many options whether it's out wide or up top.

"Most have proven themselves at this level so I don't see how Green forces his way into the plans."

George Harbey

"I don’t think so.

"Villa have a plethora of fantastic attacking players in their ranks who, let’s face it, are all better players than Green.

"He’s had an impressive season for Pompey, but I think they should sort their defence out first."
