A lot of transfer focus at Aston Villa recently has been about the potential departure of fringe players, as Steve Bruce and Dr Tony Xia look to balance the club’s books and avoid any Financial Fair Play punishments.

Over the summer, a host of players left Villa Park, with just a handful arriving, with Bruce extremely savvy with his transfer business.

One player to leave Villa Park was Aaron Tshibola, who linked up with MK Dons on a season-long loan.

The midfielder made a disappointing contribution in League One, and last week, returned to Villa Park having had his loan spell cut short.

Following the 22-year-old’s return to Villa Park, our writers look at what the future holds for the Aston Villa flop…

It's shame, but he's heading for the exit door.

As a Reading fan, I believed Tshibola was going to have an incredibly bright future as he frequently exhibited superb, commanding displays in the middle of the park for the Royals.

But since his £5m move to Villa, his career has dramatically declined.

Even League One side MK Dons don't want him - It's worrying times for Tshibola.

Chris Gallagher

He has an awful lot to prove.

Tshibola is a million miles away from the Villa team and let himself down at MK Dons.

He'll have to knuckle down in training and look for another loan move in January and it has to be successful.

It's hard to see him playing for Villa again if I'm honest.

George Dagless

The exit door.

Tshibola was one of many Villa youngsters expected to make it big but along the line he has lost his way.

The loan to MK Dons was meant to redeem him but it looks as though he blew it and so I think he might be let go.

Adam Simeoni

Tshibola was rinsed by MK Dons fans following the news that he had returned to Villa, and not many in the West Midlands will be impressed by his spell in Buckinghamshire.

The player has a lot to prove following the failed spell, but others have returned to parent clubs following poor spells to become top Premier League players - Just look at Harry Kane.
