Marcelo Bielsa is in advanced talks with Leeds United over their vacant managerial position, according to Sky Sports News.

Leeds are searching for a new manager after deciding to sack Paul Heckingbottom on Friday and they have turned their attention to Bielsa.

The Argentine has vast managerial experience, having coached in a number of different countries including Argentina, Mexico, Spain, Italy and France, as well as spending time in charge of the Argentina and Chile national sides.

Bielsa's highly-decorated career has seen him win Olympic gold with Argentina and guide Athletic Bilbao to two finals - the Europa League and the Copa Del Rey - both of which he lost.

The 62-year-old has also impressed at Marseille and he was most recently at Lille, where he was sacked last December.

Leeds are looking for their fourth manager since the start of the 2016/17 season, having had Garry Monk, Thomas Christiansen and Heckingbottom in that time.

The Verdict

This is a highly unpredictable appointment; it is high risk but very exciting.

Bielsa is renowned for his unusual methods and his deep studying of the intricacies of the game.

Whether his 3-3-3-1 formation would work in the Championship remains to be seen but Leeds fans will be getting very excited about the prospect of him taking them back to the Premier League with his unorthodox methods.
