Aitor Karanka is set to oversee a huge summer overhaul at the City Ground this summer, with some high-profile members of Nottingham Forest’s squad heading for the exit door.

During his brief time in-charge at the City Ground, Karanka has made changes to his playing squad, with the Spaniard eyeing the summer as a key time to make further adjustments.

After a 17th placed finish in the Sky Bet Championship, Karanka has told a number of first-team players they don’t feature in his plans going forward.

According to Football Insider, Barrie McKay, Daryl Murphy, Michael Mancienne and Liam Bridcutt are all first-team players who have been told they can move on.

Other names reportedly heading for the exit door include Stefanos Kapino and Apostolos Vellios, as Karanka looks to clear his squad.

David Vaughan and Jack Hobbs are two players others also heading for the exit door, with their contracts at the City Ground running down in the coming weeks.

Karanka has already captured his first signing of the summer, with Tobias Figueiredo agreeing to join Forest permanently following an impressive loan spell during the second-half of the season.

The Verdict

Karanka has clearly not been impressed with what he has inherited at the City Ground, with a busy summer looking likely.

Some big names appear to be surplus to requirements, including Bridcutt, Mancienne and Murphy, but Forest’s supporters won’t be surprised to see Karanka making bod decisions, particularly after his ruthless work in January.

Supporters will hope that the ex-Middlesbrough boss can source the right quality to get Forest challenging higher up the Championship table.
