Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson has his hands full at the moment as he searches for a new manager following the departure of Tony Pulis, with the task of getting a new head coach required as a matter of urgency, to allow the new incumbent time to prepare for the coming season.

The lack of a manager also has an impact on the playing squad now, with clubs expressing an interest in Boro players including striker Britt Assombalonga, who is a target of newly promoted Sheffield United, according to the Northern Echo.

But how much is Assombalonga worth in the current transfer climate?

We discuss.......

Jacob Potter

"He’s worth at least £10m.

"Assombalonga is a quality Championship striker on his day, even though he does struggle for consistency at times.

"His pace and power make him a defender’s nightmare and I’d expect him to show that in the Premier League with the Blades if he signed for Chris Wilder’s side."

Ben Lang

"I don’t think he is worth any more than £10million in the current climate, but Middlesbrough are likely to demand more for him.

"He has delivered respectable goal tallies over the last two seasons, but has often struggled with injuries during that time.

"The Blades might struggle to get value for money if they were to seriously pursue this signing, so I think they would be better off targeting a more cost-effective striker."

George Brooks

"I think probably around £15million.

"That’s how much Middlesbrough paid Nottingham Forest for his services two summers ago and I think he’s probably worth around the same now.

"He’s a proven goalscorer and is very experienced at Championship level.

"He still has two years remaining on his contract at the Riverside, so this will obviously affect his value, but he has no Premier League experience, so I think around £15million is about right."

Gary Hutchinson

“It’s hard to say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

“Boro will tell you £15m and not a penny less.

“I’d prefer to think the upper limit would be ten, given that he’s never played in the top flight.

“With the money in the Premier League though, £20m might not be too much to fork out.”
