James McClean is closing in on a £5m switch from West Brom to Stoke City, swapping one relegated club for another as both face up to life in the Championship.
The 29-year old has undergone a medical at the bet365 Stadium, with the deal expected to be completed over the weekend.
McClean faced an internal disciplinary proceeding at West Brom for failing to attend a recent training camp and has been seemingly on his way out of the Hawthorns for a while now.
With five seasons of Premier League experience and still under 30 years old, West Brom fans could be forgiven for rueing the loss of the experienced winger, but that doesn’t seem to be the case at all.
Some have taken to Twitter to express their delight at his departure, for a range of reasons. McClean has proved to be a controversial figure throughout his career, which hasn’t entirely endeared him to Baggies fans.
Here’s a small selection of the numerous messages on social media.
he's utter dross can't belive your giving us 6 million he's so hot headed and commits loads of fouls plus his delivery and end product is poor but works arrd a proper pulis signing lol

I see your point but just get ready for him as a person. He's not very bright and makes alot of bad choices. And isn't a very good footballer in general. I'd of actually been happy with 2 million for him.

Yeah and we got £12m off them for Bera???????????? lets just say we’ve pulled their pants down and leave it at that okay? ????

Oh good. Now we can listen to visiting supporters booing him every week, same as Stoke supporters did whenever he played. Surely we could have got someone just as average but less divisive for the same money?

Crappy character? That's completely wrong. He might be a "headless chicken" but he'll train & work harder than 99% of his team mates.
That said, he should've went back to WBA for pre season & got his move out of there the right way. That's the only blight I see on his character
