Bristol City are edging closer to completing the signing of Colchester midfielder, Sammie Szmodics according to The Mirror (18th May, 12:17pm).

The 23-year-old has been hugely impressive for the League Two side, who narrowly missed out on a play-off spot on the final day of the season.

Szmodics has 15 goals to his name, and his good run of form seemingly hasn't gone unnoticed this season.

It has also been reported by the Bristol Post, that Derby County, Reading and Hull City have also been interested in signing the attacking midfielder ahead of a potential summer move.

He could prove to be a useful addition to the Bristol City side, with Lee Johnson already delving into the lower leagues to find players.

The likes of Callum O'Dowda and Mo Eisa are just a couple of the names that have been signed by teams in the lower tiers of English football.

But would Szmodics be a good signing for Lee Johnson's side ahead of next season?

We discuss....

Gary Hutchinson:

"Yes, this is a quality signing.

"Having seen him first hand, he's got the ability to play in the Championship.

"He's good on the ball and a threat going forward.

"He's the next Bradley Dack."

Toby Wilding:

"There has been plenty of talk about a big summer of spending at Ashton Gate, and this would be a good start to it.

"Szmodics' record in front of goal is impressive for a midfielder, and his all round play has been key to Colchester's own performances in recent years.

"It is something of a surprise that a higher level side haven't snapped him up before now, but Bristol City could be about to benefit from that."

Jacob Potter:

"A great bit of business if they can sign him.

"Szmodics is a man in demand this summer, and it’s clear to see why.

"His goalscoring record speaks for itself, and Bristol City will do well in fighting off competition from the likes of Reading to strike a deal for the attacking midfielder.

"He’d be a gamble, but sometimes you have to take that."
