Nottingham Forest have announced that the club has sealed a deal for Newcastle United midfielder Jack Colback to join on loan until the end of the season.

The 28-year-old had been completely exiled at St James’ Park this season by manager Rafa Benitez, spending the majority of his time with the U23’s.

Colback joined the Magpies in 2014 from local rivals Sunderland, but will now attempt to earn himself a permanent move away from the north east side in the summer through a series of solid displays in the second tier with Forest.

New boss Aitor Karanka has endured an indifferent start to life at the helm, losing three of his opening four games, but his single victory came in a 2-0 win at league leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Karanka lambasted his side’s performance in the week as the Reds fell to a 3-0 home defeat against Preston, with the Spaniard working hard to improve his squad on the final day.
