Noel Whelan has claimed that Aston Villa have the best squad in the Sky Bet Championship and has named three of their reserve players who he believes are good enough to get into the Leeds United starting XI.
Villa extended their unbeaten run to twelve matches in the Championship at the weekend and ended Leeds’ automatic promotion hopes in the process with a 1-1 draw at Elland Road.
And, Whelan has told Football Insider that he believes Dean Smith the strongest squad in the Championship and has claimed that Alan Hutton, Albert Adomah and Glenn Whelan are all good enough to get into the Leeds starting XI.
The trio started the match at Elland Road on the bench, but have all played an important role for Villa this season, with each of them making over 30 appearances in the Championship.
So, is Whelan correct? Are Hutton, Adomah and Whelan good enough to get into Leeds’ starting XI? We discuss…
“He couldn’t be more wrong.
“There is absolutely no way that those three players are anywhere near good enough to get in the Leeds team. He’s surely having a laugh here isn’t he?
“There are far better players in that Villa team that would get into the Leeds team.”
“I’m far from convinced by this.
“There is no doubting the three are all good players, but Leeds are far from short of good players themselves.
“It is worth remembering that Leeds’ squad has kept them competing for promotion all season, while Villa’s squad have only secured a place in the play-offs following what is an admittedly impressive run of form in the second half of the season.”
“It’s certainly a bold statement.
“Hutton, Adomah and Whelan are all good players and have done well for Villa this season, but I don’t think any of them are good enough to get into the Leeds starting XI.
“Leeds have got some very talented players in their team and there are far better players in the Villa squad who could compete for a place in Bielsa’s starting XI.”
