Oliver Burke is a player that has divided opinion amongst West Brom supporters since his arrival back in 2017.

There were high hopes for the Scottish youngster, having previously impressed at both Nottingham Forest and German side, RB Leipzig.

But he spent half of last season loan with Celtic, and his future at West Brom remains up in the air.

In our latest FLW Six Pointer, Jacob Potter takes us through Burke’s chances of forcing his way into the West Brom side next season.

Firstly, how good has Burke been out on loan at Celtic last season?

"He struggled for regular game time.

"In total, Burke made 14 appearances for Celtic, which included nine starts, so he would have hoped that he could have featured more in his loan spell with the Scottish giants.

"However, he did score four goals in his time with the club, and chipped in with some positive performances for the treble winners."

Why was he sent out on loan in the first place?

"In a short answer, I have no idea why.

"He evidently wasn’t rated very highly by Darren Moore, which certainly came as a surprise to me in the first place.

"But his potential is there for all to see, it’s just that he needs to show some more consistency.

"He’s a confidence-based player I think, and he must hit the ground running for West Brom next season, or he could be loaned out once again."

How likely is he to feature for the Baggies next season?

"He’s surely going to feature for the promotion hopefuls.

"They are thin on attacking depth heading into next season, with Dwight Gayle returning to Newcastle, whilst Jay Rodriguez continues to be linked with a move away from The Hawthorns.

"He's a certain starter in my opinion."

Is he the man to lead the line for West Brom if Rodriguez departs?

"West Brom are in deep trouble if Rodriguez is to leave the club in the summer, with the likes of Burnley and Sheffield United lining up bids for him according to Lancashire Live.

"But Burke has already shown that he can lead the line, having done with Scotland recently, where he netted a late winner against Cyprus in their Euro 2020 qualifier.

"He’s got all the right attributes, but he needs to show some consistency in front of goal."

What are his attributes?

"He’s got pace, and power, which is exactly what you need as a striker.

"Burke also has an eye for goal, which will be pleasing to see if you’re a West Brom supporter.

"But he’s a versatile option to have in their squad as well, as he can operate as both a striker or a winger.

"He’s good enough to be playing regularly in the Championship, and I would be stunned if he was sent out on loan again next season."

Lastly, could you call this a make or break season for Burke?

"Absolutely.

"I was really surprised to see the Baggies loan him out in the first place, and I think they made a mistake in doing that.

"But this is his second season with them now, and he needs to hit the ground running, or I really do fear for his future at the club.

"There’s no doubting that he is player with real quality on his day, but he just needs to be given a chance.
