It appears that Jack Rodwell’s disappointing Sunderland career is drawing to a close, with reports suggesting that the Sky Bet Championship outfit are willing to release the midfielder from the remaining 18 months of his contract.

Rodwell’s career has taken a huge decline during his time at the Stadium of Light, with the 26-year-old failing to build on an impressive reputation he built up during his early days.

But, what next for Rodwell? We discuss…

It could go either way.

The midfielder is only 26 so he's still got time to salvage his career.

He used to be one of the brightest prospects in the country if he discovers that at his next club he could prove a very shrewd signing.

Sam Preston

There's a player in there and he's still young.

It might annoy Sunderland fans but I can see him getting his career back on track pretty quickly.

There is already interest from Celtic, which would be a good move, and if he was a free agent, I'm sure there would be Premier League interest too.

He isn't finished yet.

Chris Gallagher

Who knows.

Firstly, he must agree to cancel his contract with Sunderland and then carefully consider his next move and look to play regular football.

However, he needs to accept a massive paycut because the money he is picking up at Sunderland is insane.

He's made enough cash now, for doing next to nothing, so should focus on finding the right club.
