Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson faces a difficult task if he wishes to hold onto his teen sensation Ricky-Jade Jones, with Manchester United just one of the clubs keen on the youngster, according to the Daily Mail.

Jones, 17, has already featured four times for Peterborough this season, scoring on his full league debut against Cambridge and his first FA Cup appearance against Stevenage ,and this has prompted a string of Premier League scouts to beat a path to Weston Homes Stadium.

So would Jones be a good signing for United and could he step up to the Premier League?

"Ricky-Jade Jones is an exciting young player, with a lot of potential. He's got fantastic pace and he's already scored a couple of goals for Peterborough this season.

"With that said, he's only made a couple of starts for Peterborough and only one of those has come in the league, so there's no doubt that he's still got a lot to learn.

"He definitely isn't good enough for the Premier League at this stage of his career, but perhaps he could be one to watch for the future.

"Manchester United have produced some very exciting and talented young players over the past few years, so the academy coaches at the club could be able to get the best out of him and help him realise his full potential."

"In a way, this would make sense to me.

"United do seem to be following a policy of bringing through young, English talent into their senior side at the minute, and Jade-Jones is certainly someone who fits that profile, having burst onto the scene at Peterborough recently.

"Admittedly, the step from League One to the Premier League is a big one to make for any player, let alone an 18-year-old such as Jade-Jones.

"Even so, United may still be tempted to move quickly for the teenager, in order to win the race for his signature rather than loosing out to any of those other sides who are seemingly interested."

“Whilst there is no doubting that Ricky-Jades Jones possesses an abundance of talent, it could be argued that Manchester United may find it beneficial to steer clear of signing him at this stage of his career.

“Having only made a handful of appearances for Peterborough’s senior side this season, the forward is still in the process of adapting to the competitiveness of senior football.

“Although Jones was very impressive during Posh’s FA Cup victory over Stevenage earlier this month, there is no guarantee that he will be able to thrive in the Premier League at the age of 17.

“Therefore, the Red Devils ought to hold fire on a deal for the forward until he has a full season under his belt at Peterborough.”
