Blackburn Rovers fan pundit, Neil McDonald has high hopes for the club's recent arrival, as they look to build on a 15th place last season in the Championship.

Rovers recently completed the signing of striker, Sam Gallagher, who arrived for a fee in the region of £5m (according to Sky Sports) from Southampton.

"Blackburn's long, long pursuit of Sam Gallagher has finally come to a conclusion and Tony Mowbray has got his man.

"The capture of the Southampton striker, two years after a successful loan spell, will be seen as a positive one by much of the Ewood faithful."

"He is still a little rough round the edges but if they can be ironed out, Gallagher could cause Championship defences plenty of problems.

McDonald went on to admit that a striker was needed ahead of the new season, and feels as though Gallagher could take the pressure off of experienced striker, Danny Graham to provide the goals to fire Blackburn up the league table.

"It has been no secret another striker was on Mowbray’s wish list in this close season.

"Blackburn have been too reliant on the evergreen Danny Graham and hopefully Gallagher and young striker Ben Brereton will be to able to take some the workload off the veteran forward."

The Blackburn fan pundit isn't expecting Gallagher to go into the starting XI immediately, and felt that he'll have to take his chance in the side when presented with the opportunity by Tony Mowbray.

"Gallagher could well be a regular starter if he if can usurp Graham in the lone striker role. He is the natural successor but only a healthy tally of goals will seem him take up that mantle.

"The 23-year-old may have to settle for starting the season as second choice but as Mowbray does like to start Graham for every match during a three-game week he may get his chance sooner rather than later."

McDonald is optimistic heading into the new season, especially now that Mowbray has added some much-needed attacking depth, but is keen to see more signings made before the transfer window reaches a conclusion.

"I would expect Blackburn to achieve a top-half finish this campaign, especially with the extra fire power provided by Gallagher. If Mowbray can make a couple more signings, especially a central defender, then they may be able to push for a play-off place."
