Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has had a number of selection issues so far this season following injuries and suspensions to key personnel, and has been missing his first choice right-back, with Like Ayling sidelined with knee ligament damage since the end of October.

The man who is filling the Ayling void of late has been young Jamie Shackleton, who has been thrusted into the first-team after a string of injuries.

And, he's been receiving praise from respected YEP journalist Phil Hay, who claims that Leeds look better with Shackleton in the team.

So is Hay right in his assessment of Shackleton?

We discuss.....

Gary Hutchinson

I’m not going to argue with Phil Hay.

He watches far more Leeds than I do, but I do know Shackleton is getting rave reviews and not just from journalists.

It’s amazing the life Bielsa and his staff have managed to breathe into Leeds and the younger players in the squad.

Alfie Burns

He’s spot on.

Stuart Dallas had some good games at right-back, but Shackleton looks to be the answer if Luke Ayling isn’t fit.

The youngster has power and energy, providing such a good option both offensively and defensively.

He’s got a big future.

Jacob Potter

He’s performed extremely well given the circumstances.

Shackleton isn’t a natural right-back but has more than proved himself to be excellent cover to the injured Luke Ayling.

Having been thrown in at the deep end, he has been a crucial member of the Leeds defence recently and is the ideal cover Ayling needs when he returns to action.

George Harbey

I don’t see why he shouldn’t be.

Shackleton is yet another young player who has turned out to be a star at Elland Road, and he’s impressed me when he’s played.

Fair play to Bielsa for sticking with youth.
