Leeds United have had a stellar season to date, and remain in the race for an automatic promotion place to the Premier League.

Marcelo Bielsa took over in the summer and has galvanised the club to be in a Championship title hint for most of the campaign.

There are but eight games remaining in the current season and the Whites are still in a position to achieve a return to the top flight after a 15-year hiatus.

With the season coming to a close, journalist Phil Hay of the Yorkshire Evening Post offered up his team of the year.

Ahead of that, however, he named who he considered being the Championship’s manager of the season.

His choice, to many, was a surprise, opting for Norwich City’s Daniel Farke’s ahead of the Whites’ Bielsa.

The Canaries are currently top of the table, four points ahead of Leeds and on course to return to the Premier League.

We asked our team of FLW writers their thoughts on Hay’s selection as the best manager in the second tier this season.

Here’s what they had to say...

Jay Taylor

“This is a turn up for the books – considering it is a pro-Leeds journalist who has offered his thoughts.

“But I agree with him.

“Bielsa came in, and it was expected that the Whites would challenge for promotion.

“Norwich were unfancied in August and top the table with eight games left – the choice is clear really.”

Gary Hutchinson

“He’s right.

“Norwich were not amongst the favourites at the start of the season.

“Farke has done an incredible job.

“Bielsa would be behind Chris Wilder for me as well.”

Jacob Potter

“He’s been better than Bielsa – it’s as simple as that.

“Don’t get me wrong, Bielsa has been excellent this season, but Farke has been a cut above the rest in the Championship.

“In a Norwich squad that isn’t the strongest, he’s made them look unbeatable in recent weeks, and it’s only a matter of time before they are crowned as the champions.”
