Aston Villa are finishing up their pre-season preparations with a friendly against Dynamo Dresden this afternoon, however Jonathan Kodjia was a surprise omission from the squad.

The Ivory Coast international was the only senior fit and available striker at Villa Park at the moment, with Scott Hogan injured and Lewis Grabban having moved on after his loan finished last season.

Therefore, bringing in a new striker ahead of the transfer deadline seems a must for Steve Bruce and that was before Kodjia wasn't involved.

Birmingham Live reported that his absence was down to pciking up an injury, which will be a major worry as the 28-year old missed large chunks of last season due to an ankle problem.

However, some supporters were speculating that it could involve a transfer, as the former Bristol City man has been linked with a move away this summer.

Either way, it's clearly not ideal for Villa ahead of their first game of the season against Hull on August 6.
