Derby County owner Mel Morris is considering his options, amid reports that the Rams current manager Frank Lampard is holding talks with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich about the management vacancy at Stamford Bridge.

One option Morris is considering is a move for another Chelsea legend, in former England captain John Terry according to the Daily Mail, who is currently part of Dean Smith's backroom staff at Aston Villa.

But is Terry ready for a management position?

We discuss.......

Kealan Hughes

"The same question was labelled at Frank Lampard, and he proved more than capable.

"Terry has more experience than Lampard did, having been a coach at Aston Villa this season. Both are natural leaders, Terry perhaps more so. He is someone the players will respect, look up to and give their all for.

"Terry will also be able to use his contacts at Chelsea and Villa to Derby's benefit, and though it may take time for him to get used to being the main man, it is a role he will likely flourish in."

Jacob Potter

"This would be an odd move, he's not ready.

"Terry doesn’t have the experience of managing a team and I seriously think there are better options out there for Derby ahead of next season.

"Lampard’s inexperience cost the Rams promotion in my opinion as they didn’t go for it enough in the play-off final.

"Terry might have the contacts to attract players to join the club, but you need experience and he hasn’t got that.

"It would be the wrong time for him to move into management in my opinion."

George Brooks

"Frank Lampard was able to achieve success at Derby last season, so I can understand why they'd be interested in someone like John Terry, but I don't think he's ready to become a manager yet.

"Terry did a great job for Aston Villa last season and will have learnt a great deal from working alongside Dean Smith.

"He's a very good coach and no doubt has what it takes to become a great manager one day, but there's no need for him to rush into his first job in management.

"It's not as if he won't get other opportunities to manage big clubs in the future, so for now, I think he should continue in his role at Villa and continue to learn from Smith."

Gary Hutchinson

“No, it’s utterly ridiculous.

“I don’t even feel it’s worthy of comment.

“What are Derby thinking? Terry isn’t a manager, Lampard wasn’t either. They need someone with focus, experience and the right brain to remove himself emotionally.

“It’s Garry Monk for me. He would take them up.

“This clamour for big name players is only going to end in tears.”
