‘He’s not here to make up numbers’ – Plenty of Leeds fans react to fresh Deadline Day arrival

Leeds United have completed their first signing of Deadline Day, bringing in Lorient goalkeeper Illan Meslier on a season-long loan deal.

The 19-year-old made 30 appearances for the Ligue 2 side last season, keeping a total of 11 clean sheets and establishing himself as one of the most impressive young shot-stoppers in the French leagues.

But the 6-foot-6 goalkeeper is yet to make an appearance for Lorient this season after falling behind Paul Nardi in the pecking order, and has now signed for Leeds on a season-long loan deal.

Leeds, who are also expected to sign Eddie Nketiah on loan from Arsenal later on today, will have been in the market for a new back-up goalkeeper after the departure of Bailey Peacock-Farrell to Burnley.

The 22-year-old fell massively out of favour under Marcelo Bielsa in the second half of last season, following the arrival of Kiko Casilla from La Liga giants Real Madrid in January.

Here, we take a look at Leeds fans’ reactions to the arrival of Meslier…
