It is now no win in six league games for West Bromwich Albion, who were defeated 2-1 by Cardiff City in South Wales on Tuesday night.

The Baggies came into this clash embarking on a dismal run of form of late - Slaven Bilic's side winning only one of their previous seven games in the Championship.

With their bid for automatic promotion looking likely to derail, Albion had to respond to a 1-0 defeat to Stoke City with a win on Tuesday night, but they failed to do so.

After a tight first-half, Callum Paterson opened the scoring for Cardiff immediately from half-time, profiting from a lapse of concentration from Albion.

The Baggies had struggled to get into their usual rhythm going forward, and in the 59th minute, Hal Robson-Kanu was replaced by Charlie Austin after a lacklustre performance from the former.

Austin made an immediate impact, levelling the scores from the penalty spot only two minutes later, but it wasn't a sign of things to come for the Baggies.

Instead, a wonderful free-kick by Lee Tomlin won the game for Cardiff, on a night where West Brom's gap between themselves and third place was cut to just two points.
