Oxford United winger Marvin Johnson is on the verge of completing a move to Championship club Middlesbrough, according to reports from The Northern Echo.

The reports revealed that Garry Monk has been monitoring the player for some time and is willing to pay £2.5 million with a further £500,000 which is dependent on appearances.

Johnson, nicknamed ‘Magic Johnson’ after the famous Basketball player, proved his versatility last season as he played at his primary left-back position along with playing as a left-mid, left-wing, right-wing, attacking-mid, and even as a centre-forward.

Middlesbrough haven’t had the start many expected them to have to the 2017/18 campaign as they sit in ninth place with seven points from their opening five games.

In contrast to their slow start to the season, Garry Monk has been very busy in the summer transfer market with nine new faces joining his squad already.

26-year-old Johnson played an impressive 61 competitive matches last season with a handful of those being for Motherwell before his deadline day transfer to Oxford.

Here is what Middlesbrough’s fans had to say on Twitter regarding the rumoured deal to bring ‘Magic Johnson’ to the Riverside…
