Brentford are seemingly wasting no time in finding a replacement for Chris Mepham who left for AFC Bournemouth, as Ethan Pinnock has emerged as a target for the Bees according to HITC Sport.

The 25-year-old has been hugely impressive for Barnsley this season, and has played a key role in the Tykes' strong start to their League One campaign.

Pinnock has made 33 appearances in all competitions for Daniel Stendel's side and the Barnsley boss is likely to want to keep hold of his key players going forward after losing Brad Potts earlier in this transfer window.

Mepham has left a sizeable gap in the Brentford defence, and the Bees will be hoping to fill that gap at the earliest of opportunities.

With Bournemouth reportedly paying £12m according to Pete O'Rourke for the Welsh international, Brentford won't be short of funds to find a replacement for the centre-back, and Pinnock could be the man to fill that void in defence.

But is Pinnock a good enough replacement for Mepham?

We discuss....

Gary Hutchinson:

"Yes, why not?

"He's great in the air, young enough to develop and someone I've tipped for a move for some time.

"He's the sort of player they should be targeting, he'll either earn them a fortune or fill the gap."

Louie Chandler:

"Probably not immediately.

"But Brentford rarely sign players for them to be ready-made stars and Pinnock certainly has a lot of potential.

"If they bring him in now, you will probably find him being very highly-rated by the start of next season."

Jacob Potter:

"In the long-term he's a more than good enough replacement for Mepham.

"He has the ability to step up to the Championship, and this would be a Brentford style signing.

"If he can continue his rapid rise as a player, then he could be a key player for the Bees for future seasons to come."
