Curtis Davies is currently out with an Achilles injury and is set to miss the rest of the season, but he has turned his mind to other things.

The 33-year-old won’t kick a ball until the new campaign, and of course, will aim to come back stronger next time.

But during his long spell out, amongst media duties and other ventures, he has taken the time to have a philosophical look about life after football.

Speaking to talkSPORT via the Derby Telegraph, the defender opened up about what he intends to do after he retires.

Davies has revealed he will “definitely” keep in the realms of football once he calls it a day on the pitch.

The Derby man has over 500 career appearances and has a wealth of knowledge and experience of the Premier League and the Championship.

He has not ruled out management post-playing career but admitted that was not the priority.

Instead, Davies mentioned a move to management is “on hold” while he fulfils media obligations.

But admitted he wants to do his badges to be in prime position to head into management.

After Davies’ comments, we asked our team of FLW writers if they thought the Derby defender would make a good manager.

Here is what they had to say…

Gary Hutchinson

“I don’t know.

“That’s the honest shout. Some players surprise you, look at Lee Bowyer for instance.

“It’s hard to tell how a player will make the step up.

“He sounds like the type who might do well.”

Jay Taylor

“It’s always hard to tell – just because you’re experienced and have a wealth of knowledge, doesn’t mean you’re suited to being a good manager.

“Time will tell I guess if Sky don’t prize him away from what he really wants to do.

“I think he would be pretty pragmatic in a management role and think he could well be a success.”

Jacob Potter

“He's got the right qualities.

“Sometimes you need to take a gamble on a former player to take charge as manager, and I think that Davies could be an excellent appointment.

“He's not proven, but you've got to give him a chance.”
