‘He’s got character’ – Plenty of Oldham fans are pleased with early managerial signs

As Oldham Athletic won their first game in five – and only their second Sky Bet League Two victory of the season – Latics fans were pleased with what they had seen from their side, playing under new boss Dino Maamria.

Former Tunisian Under-21 international Maamria was appointed Oldham manager almost immediately after his predecessor, Frenchman Laurent Banide, was sacked less than a week ago.

Maamria himself started the season off as Stevenage manager, though after a tough start and with his team sat near the bottom of the Football League – the Tunisian found himself moved on.

The new Oldham boss spent most of his playing career in non-league football with the likes of Southport and Northwich Victoria – along with Stevenage prior to their promotion to the Football League – and is said to be a tough character who demands no shortage of commitment and desire from his players.

That said, he’s also thought of as a very likeable, positive individual with a fantastic attitude to succeed. Maamria’s first game in charge of the Latics was at the weekend – a home game against Morecambe – and saw a 3-1 win which lifted spirits of supporters that good times under their new manager were just around the corner.

Supporters logged on to Twitter to show their delight at the result, performance and the fact they now, in Dino Maamria, have a strong character in charge.
